The Kent Test is an assessment for students in Year 6, and who want to apply to a Kent Grammar School. The test is foremost designed to assist Kent grammar schools with accepting students into their secondary school.
FORMAT OF THE KENT TEST
The Kent Test contains four topics which will be assessed, and scores will be recorded for each paper.
- Paper 1 – Maths and EnglishThis paper is 1 hour long and will contain multiple-choice questions. You will be expected to have a good understanding of basic mathematical concepts and calculations, and show an ability to recognise good use of grammar, punctuation and spelling, and reading and comprehension.
- Paper 2 – Reasoning – Verbal and Non-VerbalThis paper is 1 hour long and will consist of reasoning questions, both verbal and non-verbal. Some questions will deal with patterns of words and sentences, whereas other questions will look at shapes and objects and ask you to identify the pattern or correlation.
GETTING THE RESULTS
You will either receive your results by:

- Online;
- Email;
- Through your primary school.
In order to be successful and stand a chance of securing a grammar school placement, you will need a total score of 320, with no lower than 106 across each subject (i.e. 106 or higher will need to be scored in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning).

EXPLANATION = if you were to put ‘un’ with the words ‘affected’, ‘alike’ and ‘adjusted’, you would get: unaffected, unalike and unadjusted. However, if you tried to put ‘un’ with ‘capable’, it would not be grammatically correct. Therefore answer D does not go with the word outside of the bracket.

EXPLANATION = ‘low’ is the odd one out, because it is pronounced differently from the other three words.

Q3. C = rhymed
EXPLANATION = the word that would best complete the sequence would be ‘rhymed’. This is the only correct spelling of the word: ‘The class was asked to write a poem that rhymed’.

EXPLANATION = the sentence would best read as follows: ‘It was their responsibility and they had to face the consequences.’
