COMPREHENSION:
QUESTION 1
A: A – The selections that have been made are unsuitable.
Explanation:
- In paragraph 7 the mention of “preposterous selections” implies that the reason that Jimmy thinks that they would not perform well if they were entered into the Olympics is answer A.
- Notice that correctly answering this then helps you with your answer to the following question.
QUESTION 2
A: B – Outrageous.
Explanation:
- If you have understood the question above, the context will help you understand this question.
- Jimmy says that they would perform badly at the Olympics because of “preposterous selections” which implies that the selections are not funny, respectable or infuriating. Therefore the selections are outrageous – answer B.
VERBAL REASONING:
QUESTION 1
A: B – Dark is the correct answer.
Explanation:
- This is because B (dark) is the opposite of the word in the question (light).
- As you can see, what these questions are asking you to do is to find the one word out of the set of words that are provided that is the opposite to the one given in the question.
- Note that with antonyms, sometimes the word in the answer will not be the exact opposite of the one in the question, so just look for the one that is as close to being opposite as possible.
QUESTION 2
They stayed up and watched the sun rise.
A: to.
NUMERICAL REASONING:
QUESTION 1
A: 52
Explanation:
- Remember the rules of BIDMAS here. (Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Adding, Subtracting).
- With this in mind, complete the sums in the brackets first.
- 5 x 5 is 25, so the sum becomes 9 + 25 + 18, which give you your answer of 52.
QUESTION 2
A: 319 (62 x 5 + 9 = 319)
Explanation:
- These input and output machines are a way of asking you to perform certain calculations.
- For this question, you can write the calculation out to make it easier for yourself.
- The input that is given to you is 62, so this is the first number in your calculation. You then need to apply the calculations in the number machine to this number.
- First of all you must multiply by 5 and then to this number you must add 9. Therefore the calculation can be written out as 62 x 5 + 9, which equals your answer, 319.
NON-VERBAL REASONING:
QUESTION 1
A: C
Explanation:
- The correct answer here is C. This is because it is a reflection across the vertical line from the first pattern.
- In this example, the other options to choose from are of the same shape but with different degrees of rotation and therefore cannot be a reflection of the question figure.
QUESTION 2
A: D
Explanation:
- D Is the only shape with over half of it shaded.
