The ROYAL NAVY Officer Selection Process
To begin with, applicants will need to contact their local Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO) and explain that they wish to apply to become a Royal Navy Officer.
The most effective way to do this is to go along to your nearest centre for a brief chat. You will be supplied with an information pack and details on how to apply, providing you meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
If your initial application is progressed you be invited to attend a ‘filter’ interview. This interview is designed to assess whether or not you have the right qualities to become a Royal Navy Officer.
If you successfully pass the filter interview, which is usually held at the Armed Forces Careers Office, you will be recommended to attend the Potential Officers Course (POC).
Should you pass the POC, you will then go to the Admiralty Interview Board (AIB). Before you arrive at the AIB you will be sent a questionnaire to complete. This helps the Royal Navy to make an initial assessment about you. It is important that you complete the form as fully and as accurately as possible. We recommend you complete the form in a manner which is positive, and also in a way that demonstrates you have the relevant qualities required to be a leader and a manager within the Royal Navy. You will need to put in plenty of preparation if you are to succeed at this stage.
